Book reading by Bill Burns in Paris


Following the launch of his new book at the Toronto Art Fair and at Canada House in London, Bill Burns will present a reading of Hans Ulrich Obrist Hear Us - featuring Bill Burns at La Cite Internationale de Arts in Paris.  The reading will take place at 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 17.  La Cite Internationale de Arts is located at 18 rue de l'Hotel de Ville, Paris 75004.

The 224 hardcover book includes a wide range of charming illustrations and an assemblage of texts written by Bill Burns, Dan Adler, Jennifer Allen, Dannys Montes de Oca Moreda.  Also included is a foreword by Jennifer Matotek and Stuart Reid.  Hans Ulrich Obrist Hear Us - featuring Bill Burns is a collection of writings on the themes of Burns' practice.

New Projects by Dave Dyment


Born on a Train

Dyment's newspaper project is a text about cinema, the railway, and filming in Toronto. Launched on November 19th as part of Jess Dobkin's Artists' Newsstand at Chester Station, Born on a Train is illustrated with photographs of the 'ghost station' of Bay Lower platform taken in collaboration with Lee HendersonThe project is the third offshoot from Dyment's  ongoing film project Substitute City.

Turntable Performance

As part of a program curated by Eleanor King for New Adventures in Sound Art, Dyment performed a turntable duet with Roula Partheniou at The Box Toronto: Studio and Theatre on November 21st. Accompanying the performance was a short lecture tracking the origins of one of the first 'mash-up' or 'bastard pop' songs.

Liss Platt at the Hamilton Film Festival and Shake-n-Make at The Artist's Newsstand


Liss Platt's collective Shake-n-Make will be presenting What's Cookin', a new project for The Artists Newsstand at Chester TTC Station in Toronto. The exhibition opens on October 6th from 5-7pm, and runs until October 12.



Liss' Dark Horse Candidate will be screened at the Hamilton Film Festival, which runs from November 2nd until the 8th. The documentary will be shown on November 4th at the Elaine May Theatre at 9:30pm.

Bill Burns at the Biennial de Asuncion

Bill Burns has created an impressive new audio work for the Biennial de Asuncion.  The project, Big In Paraguay can be heard over the PA system at Asuncion International AirportBill Burns recently produced the audio piece during his Artist-in-Residence at La Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris.  This is the first year that Asuncion will host an International Contemporary Arts Biennial, taking place from October 1- 31, 2015.

Monica Tap at the Art Gallery of Mississauga

Monica Tap is included in Beyond the Pines, a group exhibition at the Art Gallery of Mississauga. The show opens on September 24 from 7-9pm and continues until January 1st, 2016. For those in Toronto, there is a free bus that leaves from the Gladstone Hotel at 6pm. Beyond the Pines is presented in partnership with the Homer Watson House and Gallery.

John Marriott at the Dunlop Art Gallery



John Marriott's solo exhibition at the Dunlop Art Gallery opens tonight, September 18. John will be giving an artist talk at 6pm at the RPL Theatre with the opening reception to follow. Sympathy for the Institution was curated by Blair Fornwald, who will be holding a tour of the exhibition on October 10 at 2pm. The exhibition runs until November 15.

Works by Four MKG127 Artists Included in the Canadian Art Hop Gala Auction Tonight

Remaining Light (After Caravaggio 1593) by David R. Harper (pictured above) is one of four works by MKG127 artists that is on the auction block tonight at the Canadian Art Foundation Gala. Works by Bill Burns, Kristiina Lahde and Laurel Woodcock are also included in the auction.
Gallery Hop Tours are on Saturday, September 26 and Sunday September 27. The Dundas West/Ossington tour that makes a stop at MKG127 meets at G Gallery, 134 Ossington Avenue at 4 PM on Saturday the 26th.

Roula Partheniou's Inventory at University of Waterloo Art Gallery

Roula Partheniou's solo exhibition, Inventory opens at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery on Thursday September 17 from 5-8 PM. The survey exhibition includes works from 2010 - 2015 and is on view in gallery 1 alongside Kelly Mark's exhibition 108 Leyton in Gallery 2. The exhibitions continue until October 31.

Laurel Woodcock included in two group shows


The Queer Feeling of Tomorrow brings together work from 6 artists whose work deals with doubt, resilience and political agency. Included in this exhibition is Laurel Woodcock'untitled [a film by John Baxter (1946), a song by the Beatles (1969), an album by Nina Simone (1971), a novel by Tom Holt (1993)]. Curated by Adam Barbu, the exhibition opens on September 17 at 7pm and runs through December 13 at the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre in Guelph, ON. 

Laurel is also part of A Putting Down of Roots: 40 Years of CV2 at Gallery 1C03  at The University of Winnipeg. The exhibition opens on September 17, with a reception from 4-6pm. The show closes on November 14.

Jayce Salloum at the American University of Beirut Gallery



The American University of Beirut Byblos Bank Art Gallery is presenting  The 1990s -كان يا ما كان There Was and There Was Not [redux/fragments]a solo exhibition by Jayce Salloum.  The exhibition gathers together Jayce's photographs, newspaper clippings, texts, postcards and videos from the 1990's, when he was living in the Middle East. The exhibition opens on September 17, at 6pm and continues until December 30. On September 22nd, Jayce, along with Kaelen Wilson-Glodie will be giving a gallery talk at 2pm.

Kristiina Lahde and Geoffrey Pugen in a group exhibition at O'Born Contemporary for the Vector Artist's Journal launch


Kristiina Lahde and Geoffrey Pugen are two of the twenty artists who are featured in the Vector Artist's Journal Toronto edition and participating in the resulting group exhibition at O'Born Contemporary. The show, entitled Stories Told, was curated by artist John Monteith, who was also the guest editor for the Toronto edition of the publication. The opening reception and publication launch will take place at the gallery on Thursday, July 16th from 6 to 9 PM.The exhibition will run through August 8th, 2015

Oakville Galleries is presenting Roula Partheniou’s  solo exhibition, House & Home & Garden.  There will be a reception on Sunday, March 29th at Gairloch Gardens (1306 Lakeshore Road East) from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The show will run from March 29 to May 24, 2015.

MKG127, Dean Drever and Dave Dyment at Villa Toronto

MKG127 is participating in Villa Toronto, a week-long exhibition of local and international contemporary art at Union Station's Great Hall. Dean Drever will be exhibiting Pass the Hat, a large totem pole made of stacked paper. The opening of Villa Toronto is on Friday, January 16 at 6 pm at Union Station, and the exhibition runs through January 23rd.
C MAGAZINE is  presenting a series of 6 artist posters specially commissioned and published for Villa Toronto. Released daily from January 16 to 21, the posters will be available for free in limited quantities on-site at Union Station, posted for viewing online at cmagazine.com and available for purchase as a collectable set through Art Metropole and C Magazine beginning on Thursday January 22. The first poster available on Friday January 16 is by Dave Dyment. Other artists who have made posters for the project are Vanessa Maltese, Kelly Mark, Niall McClelland, Brad Phillips and Elizabeth Zvonar. Each poster is printed in a limited edition of 150.
