Bill Burns Exhibition at Dunlop Art Gallery


Curated by Jennifer Matotek in collaboration with Stuart Reid, Bill Burns' upcoming solo show "Beatrix Ruf Protect Us: A Project About Longing" at the Dunlop Art Gallery brings together a wide range of work from over the years.  The exhibit will include watercolours, bobbleheads of art world celebrities, video works, and sculptures.  Over the next three years the show will tour across Canada along with a publication co-produced by the Dunlop Art Gallery, Rodman Hall Art Center, and YYZ books.  The show will run in Regina from November 28, 2014 - January 18, 2015.  Be sure to attend a talk by Bill Burns at 6pm in the RPL Film Theatre on November 28th, followed by an opening reception at 7pm in the Central Gallery.

Exhibition tours will run this Saturday and Sunday at 2pm in the Central Gallery along with A Goat Milking Performance which can be seen on November 29th, 3pm in the Central Gallery.

MKG127 at Art Toronto and UNTITLED. Miami



This is the 7th consecutive year that MKG127 is exhibiting at Art Toronto. There is a Special Collector's and Opening Night Preview on Thursday, October 23rd from 4:30 - 10pm, and the fair runs from Friday October 24 until Monday October 27. Art Toronto will once again be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre at 255 Front St. West. Our booth is #908 so please come and say hello.

Risa Horowitz and Monica Tap at Canada House



Congratulations to Risa Horowitz and Monica Tap whose work was recently acquired by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to be displayed at Canada House in London, UK.

Monica will be exhibiting new and recent paintings in response to her time in Worpswede, Germany at Gallery Stratford. Monica Tap: Teufelsmoor and other haunts begins on October 12 and runs until January 04, 2015.

The catalogue for Monica's exhibition, the pace of days, recently published by the MacDonald Stewart Gallery at the University of Guelph is available at MKG127.

Gwen MacGregor participating in the upcoming Nuit Blanche Panel Discussion Series

 
Gwen MacGregor will be a panelist alongside Murray Whyte and Janine Marchessault as part of the Nuit Talks Series, Nuit Blanche 2014.  Leah Sandals will be moderating the panel which will be held at OCAD University, Auditorium Room 190, 100 McCaul Street on Wednesday, October 1st from 12-1:30pm.  Be sure to check it out!

Jayce Salloum in The Militant Image at Camera Austria

Jayce Salloum is included in the exhibition The Militant Image.  The project is curated by Urban Subjects (Sabine Bitter, Jeff Derksen and Helmut Weber) in collaboration with Camera Austria in Graz.  Other artists in the exhibition include Harun Farocki, Alfredo Jaar, Sharon Hayes and Raymond Boisjoly. The Militant Image opens on September 27th and continues until November 16, 2014.  On September 25th at 5pm there will be an artist talk with Jayce, Paola Yacoub and Urban Subjects.

MKG127 Artists and the Canadian Art Hop Gala Dinner and Auction



Roula Partheniou and Joy Walker, in collaboration are creating the environment for the 2014 Canadian Art Gala Dinner and Auction.


David R. Harper's Simulacra (Swan) is included in the works available at the auction. The event is being held at Kool Haus on Thursday, September 18th beginning at 6pm. Tickets to the auction are still available and can be purchased HERE.


On Saturday, September 20, MKG127 is included in the Dundas West tour of Canadian Art's Gallery Hop Day. Led by curator Stefan Hancherow, the Dundas West tour begins at p|m Gallery (1518 Dundas St. West) at 4:30pm. Join Stefan in viewing Gwen MacGregor's new work in the main space, Roula Partheniou in the front space, as well as our new lightbox project by Ken Lum.

Adam David Brown at Trinity Square Video


Trinity Square Video's upcoming exhibition TWO-D: Sculptural Video is a series of themed video commissions exploring the bridge between sculpture and video. Among the works is Adam David Brown's Solar Systemwhich utilizes elements of Marcel Duchamp's Roto-Relief combined with graphic elements of op-art to construct a celestial orbit of psycho-spatial distortions. TWO-D: Sculptural Video opens on September 13, with a reception from 6-9pm and runs until October 17.

Bill Burns in TBD opening at MOCCA tonight

Bill Burns  is included in the exhibition "TBD" at MOCCA opening tonight from 5 - 8 PM.  Burns will be amongst a variety of artists interested in challenging the power structures within contemporary art galleries, visualizing new avenues and possibilities for artists and galleries within the community.  TBD is curated by Su-Ying Lee and will on view from September 6 - October 26.
Keep an eye open for Bill Burns' project on electric billboards which can be seen on freeways in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal from September 15-October 15, 2014.  The 22 billboards are a project with MOCCA (Toronto) and ALLVISION's Paint the City programme (New York) and are produced in English, Portuguese, French, Standard Chinese and Punjabi.

Liza Eurich and John Marriot in a group show at Justina M. Barnicke Gallery

Liza Eurich and John Marriot, along with eight other artists will be exploring the playful and humorous side of minimal art in Why Can't Minimal at Justina M. Barnicke Gallery. Curated by John G. Hampton, the exhibition runs from September 2 through October 19, with the opening reception on Thursday, September 11 from 6-8pm. John G. Hampton will be giving a curator's tour on September 20th at 2pm. A review of the exhibition by Murray Whyte of the Toronto Star can be read HERE.

Roula Partheniou and Gwen MacGregor in September group shows




Roula Partheniou and Gwen MacGregor are included in This Area is Under 23 Hour Video and Audio Surveillance, a group exhibition curated by Yan Wu. Roula's 100 Variations will be included, and Gwen will be exhibiting The Things I Forgot, a collaborative installation with Lewis Nicholson. The exhibition opened yesterday at the Jackman Humanities Institute at The University of Toronto and continues until June 2015.



Roula Partheniou is also included in a group show at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery opening September 14th. Archive Fever! is a collaborative archival and collection project curated by Krista Blake. The show closes January 4, 2015.

Gwen MacGregor at the Fernie Museum

To honor the 50th anniversary of Fernie's historical curse raising ceremony, Gwen MacGregor's video Fold it Up and Put it Away: Fernie's Curse (first exhibited in 1998 at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery) is currently on view at the Fernie Museum until the end of August.  In conjunction with the video, Gwen will be giving a talk at the Museum on Thursday August 14th at 7pm. Since completing her MA in cultural geography, MacGregor's first published article, "Toronto's Nuit Blanche" can be found in the current issue of the journal, Art and the Public Sphere.

Bill Burns at the Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in Helsinki


Bill Burns is taking The Bill Burns Show to the Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in Helsinki, Finland from August 13th until the 31st, 2014. The opening event will take place at the gallery on Tuesday, August 12th from 5-7 pm.

There will be a public panel discussion on topical themes raised by the exhibition on Thursday, August 14 at 5 pm in English with Bill Burns, Taru Elfving & Marja-Terttu Kivirinta as well as a panel discussion in Finnish on Friday, August 22 at 5 pm with Jussi Koitela as moderator

Sara Graham, participant in CAFKA.14 'It should always be this way'

  
Sara Graham will be part of this years CAFKA.14, an exhibition dedicated to art in the public sphere.  Graham's Pype Supersystem comprised of three sculptural works will be installed throughout the cities of Waterloo and Kitchener from May 31st-June 29th.  The yellow pipe sculptures will be on view at Tannery Communitech Hub, City of Kitchener sidewalk planter and the Waterloo Civic Square.

Roula Partheniou at Open Studio



Open Studio is presenting an exhibition of work by Roula Partheniou and Shaan Syed produced during their time in the Visiting Artist Residency Program. The exhibition opens May 23 and closes June 21, 2014.

Dave Dyment in the 2014 Biennale de Montréal



The Biennale de MontrĂ©al announced Dave Dyment as one of the artists participating in the 2014 biennial curated by Gregory Burke, Peggy Gale, Lesley Johnstone and Mark LanctĂ´t. The theme of this year's biennial is "L’Avenir (looking forward)" and runs from October 22, 2014 until January 4, 2015. Some of the other artists included in the biennial are Abbas AkhavanAmanda Beech and Lawrence Weiner. More details online at Canadian Art.

Monica Tap at Boston Cyberarts


Monica Tap is part of a group exhibition at Boston Cyberarts. Crossover is an exhibit that explores traditional artworks that are heavily influenced by technology. The other artists included are Sophia Brueckner, Nicholas Irzyk, Carlos JimĂ©nez Cahua and Nathalie Miebach. The show runs from May 3rd until June 15.

Joy Walker at the Dunlop Gallery


Joy Walker was recently commissioned to create a piece for the Regina Public Library alongside Dunlop's Central Gallery exhibition, Who's Afraid of Purple, Orange and Green? curated by Jennifer Matotek and including work by Krista Buecking, Arabella Campbell, Jessica Eaton, Marie Lannoo, Jennifer Marman and Daniel Borins, Luce Meunier, Sarah Nasby, Sasha Pierce, Jennifer Rose Sciarrino, and Celia Perrin Sidarous. MKG127 will be exhibiting in Montreal at Papier 14 from April 25 through April 27. There will be a VIP Opening and Benefit evening on Thursday, April 24 from 6-9pm. Roula Partheniou's Caution Yellow, seen from new heights


Roula Partheniou’s Caution Yellow was recently acquired by The University of Toronto’s Blackwood Gallery Collection. The installation is located in the main floor corridor of the Communication, Culture, and Technology Building.

Roula’s work is also included in the current group exhibition at Blackwood Gallery, Communicating Vessels curated by Corrie Jackson. The show also features works by IAIN BAXTER&, Luis Jacob and Judy Radul. The exhibition opened April 16 and runs until May 11, 2014.

Michael Dumontier, Looking Up at the Winnipeg Art Gallery


Michael Dumontier is included in the group exhibition, Looking Up: Contemporary Connections with Inuit Art at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Curated by Paul Butler, The show features work by 8 local artists, alongside works by 18 of their northern contemporaries. The exhibition opened on December 21st and runs until March 16th, 2014. It was recently reviewed in the Winnipeg Free Press.
